How I Play My Level 80 Wizard
A walkthrough of my level 80 EverQuest Wizard setup. Covers the nuke rotation, the burn sequence built around Mana Burn and Mind Crash, swarm pet support for Mage synergy, gear progression from Paragon to House of Thule, and how the Wizard becomes the highest single-target DPS in the box.
The level 80 Wizard is the highest single-target DPS in the box. Built around chained nukes, a Mana Burn / Mind Crash burst window, and swarm pet support that feeds the Mage's Shock of the Many. This guide covers the rotation, burn sequence, mana sustain, and gear path.
Session Overview
Why the Wizard carries the box.
- Role: Pure single-target nuke DPS. Does the most damage in the group at level 80.
- Sustain: Tranquil Harvest in the multibind so mana is restored without thinking about it.
- Synergy: Summons Euthanos' Flameblade and Call of Xuzl swords. Extra pets that count toward the Mage's Shock of the Many stack.
- Note: So strong I've considered dropping a Mage and adding a second Wizard.
Core Spell Rotation
The everyday multibind on the spam button.
- Wildmagic Burst: Random fire of Chaos Conflagration, Claw of Selig, or Pure Wild Magic AA. Always cast first.
- Rime Snap: 4,500 instant cold nuke. Small chance of Wild Magic backlash.
- Force of Will (AA): Instant cast, 1,700 damage, 15s reuse on the AA timer.
- Ethereal Incineration: 8,300 damage fire nuke, 2.3s cast. Most fights die before anything else fires.
- Tangleweave Energy: 4,500 nuke that procs a chance to buff the next spell's damage. Filler when the bigger nukes are on cooldown.
Tip: Most short fights end on Ethereal Incineration before Tangleweave even fires. Longer fights cycle through everything.
Mana Sustain
Keeping the gas tank full.
- Tranquil Harvest: In the multibind so it auto-fires when mana drops. Stuns you ~10s, but you're not paying attention to one character anyway.
- Harvest of Druzzil: Backup mana restore on a separate button.
- Laminae of the Crystalwing: Mana regen rune. Keep up at all times. Block Rune of the Deep if your Enchanter is running it (doesn't stack).
- Long-term: Both harvests come out of the multibind around level 130 once external mana regen is high enough.
Burn Sequence
Stacking everything for the kill window.
- Silent Casting: Lowers aggro on all spells cast. Open with this.
- Ward of Destruction: Stationary AoE ward dropping 335 damage on every creature in 60ft.
- Frenzied Devastation: Buffs the next 31 spells with +40% crit damage. Massive.
- Fury of the Gods: +900 base damage on every spell. Stacks on top of Frenzied Devastation.
- Mana Burn: Single-target burst. Drops ~40% of your mana for ~68,000 damage.
- Mind Crash: Drops target hatred by 14,000. Fire immediately after Mana Burn so the tank can hold aggro.
Aggro management: Mana Burn generates massive hate. Mind Crash chained right after is the difference between living and getting one-shot by the next mob in the pull.
Swarm Pet Support
Wizard pets exist to feed Mage Shock of the Many.
- Euthanos' Flameblade: Summons a giant sword that fights as a pet. Damage is unremarkable (~200 per hit) but it counts toward the Mage's pet stack.
- Call of Xuzl: Summons two animated swords on the target with a Lure of Flame proc. That's three Wizard pets active during longer fights.
- Net effect: Wizard contributes 2 to 3 pets to every Shock of the Many cast, helping push past the 7-pet damage cap.
Defensive & Escape
Surviving aggro and fights gone wrong.
- Dimensional Shield: Absorbs melee damage. Wizards generate a lot of aggro at this level.
- Improved Familiar: Always-on stat and damage buff. Eventually you can run two familiars at once.
- Etherealist's Unity II: AC buff. Block if it conflicts with focus.
- Evacuate: Group escape on a 14-minute timer. Pop it the moment the tank dies.
- Strong Root: Backup root for solo emergencies.
- Perfect Invisibility: Bypasses most aggro for navigation.
Concussion AA: Unlocks at level 86. Gives you a non-instant-recast hate dump that's safe to keep in the multibind.
Travel & Utility
Getting the box around the world.
- Teleport Bind: Bind the Wizard in Dead Hills (Gribble missions) and Crescent Reach. Group teleports save throne hops.
- Secondary & Tertiary Recall: Configurable with Stones of Marking and Guide Stones. Three different teleport destinations.
- Origin: Crescent Reach fallback.
Gear Progression at 80
Skipping the grind for the gribble fast track.
- Elegant Defiant: The bare minimum starting point.
- Paragon Armor (Seeds of Destruction): Equivalent to House of Thule tier 1. Best path if you're investing time in gearing.
- House of Thule Tier 1: Alternative if your tank is well-geared. Fear Itself zone.
- Marks of Valor merchant: Buy SoD and HoT tier 4 gear from the Call of the Forsaken merchant in Ethernere: West Karana to skip the grind.
Box strategy: Wizards can stay severely undergeared until ~106 since the Mage carries pet damage and external buffs cover stats. Focus gear on the tank first.
Hotbar & Multibind
One-button play.
- Spam button (5): Wildmagic Burst → Rime Snap → Force of Will → Ethereal Incineration → Tangleweave Energy → Tranquil Harvest.
- Assist button: X target 19. Bound to the main tank's target for instant acquisition.
- Pet attack + swarm: Single button so the swords fight whatever the tank's hitting.
- Stand: AoE FD recovery.
- Buff button: Cast Laminae of the Crystalwing + Tranquil Harvest in one click.
Quick Rotation Cheat Sheet
- Pre-pull: Laminae of the Crystalwing, Improved Familiar, Dimensional Shield.
- Burn: Silent Casting → Ward of Destruction → Frenzied Devastation → Fury of the Gods.
- Engage: Spam 5. Wildmagic Burst → Rime Snap → Force of Will → Ethereal Incineration.
- Big target: Mana Burn → Mind Crash (immediately, to dump hate).
- Pet support: Uthus + Call of Xuzl up before Mage casts Shock of the Many.
- Mana low: Tranquil Harvest fires automatically in the multibind.
- Tank dies: Evacuate. Don't try to save it.

Hello and welcome to how I play my level 80 wizard. Today we’re going to talk about the wizard. Obviously, that’s what this is all about. Uh we’re going to talk about spells. We’re going to talk about the rotation multivine that I use to make my wizard playable with one button. And uh we’ll talk about some of these other things on my bars at the same time. Uh now, for the most part, the the wizard is a very strong class. It does the most damage out of my group right now. So much damage uh that I’ve considered dropping a mage and turning that into another wizard. But uh I think I’m going to hold off on that just because uh it’s a lot of work and uh it is a lot of stuff. So let’s get into this. So we have a lot of spells. We’re going to go into them in the order that they’re memorized and then uh we’ll talk about how I actually have this set up. All right, so we got Tangle Weave Energy. This is a 4500 nuke that does a little bit of extra stuff. Uh it’s quite nice. In fact, it uh you know, it does a little uh chance weave into harness and increase the effects for your next. So like my next spell might do more damage kind of thing. So it’s kind of nice, right? Uh then we have Ethereal Incineration, which is an 8300 nuke with a 2.3 second cast time. I mean, it’s insane. Uh we have Wild Magic Burst, which will randomly cast one of the three, I believe, spells, chaos, Kenflaggeration, Claw, Seltug, and Pure Wild Magic, AIA. So there is there’s some interesting mechanics with this one. So that’s kind of a nice one to have there. Then we have Chaos Configuration, which is cast by this one. Now, if we look at the the the multi-binder, right, it’s Wild Magic Burst and Ethereal Incineration. I don’t actually cast this. I have it on the bar because I like literally this would just be four spells on my bar. I would I don’t even really need anything else, right? We have Rhyme Snap, which is instant cold nuke. I don’t think Yeah, we didn’t c skip anything. This does 4500 damage, right? This is like instant, right? Just boom, head shot, right? It’s very nice. Uh now, uh it does have a chance to do some wild magic back on me, which will do some kind of uh effect, right? Then we have tranquil harvest, which is our current level harvest. Just gives me mana back, right? Uh and stuns me for like 10 seconds, I think. Uh then we have crystal wing uh laminate which is our current level rune that gives mana regen. Uh you want to keep this up at all times. Now if I’m not mistaken I had to block a spell which is worth talking about here. Uh characters block buffs. Yeah. Rune of the kg. So I have an enchanter who does a group rune. Right. So, G the rune of the cedge uh does not stack with uh the the crystal wing. So, you want the crystal wing as the mana regen. Uh so, keep that in mind when you’re having your spells. Then, we have uh Uthus, the Flame Blade, which is our current level pet. Uh swarm pet thing. It’s kind of nice because Oh, he going to cast. Jeez. There we go. Jeez. I don’t know why it I guess it fizzled. Uh it summons this giant sword, right? And the sword, you know, becomes a pet, which then indirectly buffs the mage damage by having an extra pet on the on the mob. It does, I don’t know, decent damage, right? If we look here, it’s like 200 hits and stuff like that. Uh no spell damage or anything like that. So, it’s it’s it’s noise really if anything. Uh, then we have Icicle Storm, which is just a a targeted AoE spell. I don’t really use it, but I felt like I wanted to memorize it, so I just put it on there. It’s like a three waves of ice uh doing uh, you know, some damage here, right? So, 1,743. Then that’s AoE damage. Now, I don’t do these because like I don’t have any AoE abilities on my paladin yet. So, if I AoE three mobs, three mobs are going to be hitting me while whatever he was attacking is on him, right? So, it’s it’s just not smart. Uh, same here. Pyroactic Eruption. Same thing. Looks cool, right? Looks really cool. 1,200 damage to everything in the range, four targets, 7.5 seconds, right? Uh, not too bad, right? Nice spell. And then we have uh uh Surrog’s Presence, which is another 1,200 point AoE nuke, right? So, if I was if I was able to hold aggro AoE wise, I might consider trying them out. The problem is is if I go stand like right here, right? And I think these these should hit me, right? These ones, if I remember correctly, they should hit me unless I resist them. At least that’s how it was. Yeah, I’m resisting them right now. So definitely uh if I did not resist them, I would take damage which could cause issues. Uh then we have evacuate just to escape the situation if we need to. All right, so that is like my bread and butter spells. Some of these I just don’t even use. Some of them I use, right? Uh but now we take that into my rotation, right? So my rotation is exter 19. So that I get my assist target, right? I pet attack. I pet swarm. So if I have pets out, these little guys, I can swap them around. I stand up because there’s some mobs that do AOE FDs. And a stand in there will get me back up and going into the action. Now, uh, so we have here wild magic burst is the first spell, right? We talked about that one. Then we go into rhymes rhyme snap. That’s the second one. Now, these are all based on cooldowns, right? Then we have the AA uh force of will, right? We’re going to get some other forces here pretty soon at 96. We’ll put those into the multivine also, but this is instant cast 15sec reuse, 1700 damage, AA, right? So, it uses a different timer system and everything. So, it’s pretty nice. Then we have ethereal incineration. A huge nuke there at the end. And then thrice woven. If uh everything else is down, thrice woven will go. Right. Uh now we have that. And then we have Call of Zuzle, which is another version of our swords. Right. Let’s summon this one real quick. So that gives us one, two animated swords on the target, right? So, I’m bringing three pets to the fight at least on longer fights, right? Shorter fights, not so much. Longer fights, I’m bringing in. This is going to be casting uh lure of flame. If we look at spell damage or spells here, like 692 is a little bit of a proc damage. You know, they’re just going out there do they’re doing what they can to bring damage to the game and stuff like that. Now, since this character is a box, and I rarely look at it because I’m only pushing one button, um, I have Drizzle’s harvest, which is a mana restore, and then I have Tranquil Harvest in my multivine so that well, I don’t have to go here and like hit harvest, right? So, it’s just something I do. I take these out eventually. Uh, probably about 1:30, we will take these out, right? These will be moved up here and we won’t worry about them in the multivine. Right now I run out of mana sometimes and it’s just nice to have it automatically done without me having to think about it since I’m just spamming that button. Right. So that’s kind of nice. Now we have our self but buff button which casts our crystal wing plus uh tranquil harvest. Right. So got that. Uh our ADPS burn here. Silent casting which lowers our aggro on all things. Then we have Ward of Destruction, which summons an AoE ward in the world that will uh do AoE damage. Silent fire, 335 damage to every creature in 60 ft radius. Uh then we have frenzied devastation, which is increases the mana of all our spells for 31 spells. Um and it will increase the critical damage by what 40%. Huge, huge, huge, huge damage right there. Fury of the Gods, which is another one, increases the base damage on all spells by 900 points. So, right off the bat, we’re getting a lot of extra damage out of that. And then we have our damage one, right? So, this is uh number eight, right? So, this is going to do target to target, right? Whatever the target is, it’s going to mana burn. And then mine crash. Now, uh, right here, Minecraft lowers the, uh, lowers the hatred by 14,000 on that target, right? So, that’s something to consider. Let me take that one out of there since I don’t do it there anymore. Uh, that is huge, right? So, if I if we look at this, right? If we do mana burn, right? Let’s just click it. I lost, you know, 40% of my mana. I did 68,000 damage. And then I immediately go into the mine crash, which should in theory lower my aggro enough that I’m not getting swacked. Uh but who knows? Who knows? But uh uh it just depends on the situation when I use it, right? Sometimes my paladin doesn’t have to worry about it. Sometimes he is frantically trying to get aggro. Uh that’s just how it goes. Now that is like all that’s the rotation. That’s the burns. That’s everything, right? That’s like that’s the bread and butter. Now, we do do some extra buffs, right? We have ethereal etherealists unity too, which gives us uh our AC buff, right? Uh does not stack with some stuff. I I don’t even know if it lands on me right now. Let’s let’s block it. Right. So, f it doesn’t stack with focus. Uh when I’m not externally buffed, I don’t have focus. So, it’s nice. Uh we do get improved familiar, which is our current level familiar. You want to do that uh and keep that up. Now, eventually the the wizard can use two familiars. So, if you have uh see here, K I don’t think this charact Yeah, this character doesn’t have any familiars. Uh if you have like, you know, familiars from expansions, you’ll have both familiars, so you get extra stats. And the familiar needs to be up at all times as it increases all our damage and all that stuff and mana and mana regeneration. So, it’s just fantastic. Uh I do have this uh elemental barrier. It’s a resist buff. I don’t really cast that much anymore, but it’s it exists. Now, we do have teleport bind now. So, if I do slash care, you can see this character is bound in dead hills and crescent reach. Uh so, I can I can uh teleport to my bind and take my whole group to Dead Hills, which is where the gribble missions are. I can do secondary recall, which will take me to Crescent Reach, I believe. And then I got Origin somewhere. I don’t even think it’s on my bar anymore. Uh to take me to Crescent Reach. Now I can change my second and third recalls with uh marks of travel stone of uh marking or guide stones respectively allowing me to teleport to three different locations with uh relatively ease along with all my other uh stuff. So a lot of extra momentum to move around. We have Exodus here for 14minute secure. If my tank dies, I try to secure as fast as possible. That’s like literally the the goal for me. I’ve been honestly considering switching to earth pets or at least one earth pet to kind of help out with uh some of the tanking cuz his gear is so bad that he is not able to sustain himself in some situations. But it works out for the most part. Uh strong route. Uh haven’t used it once, but uh it’s there just in case I need it. Right. Like if I’m running around just with this guy, it’s there. I got it. Right. Perfect. Invisibility. Uh gives me the ability to be invisible. Perfect. Right. And then we have uh dimensional instability. Uh dimensional shield, which just absorbs melee damage. Right. Like this character generates a lot of aggro at the moment. Uh we do not have the concussion AA yet, which is kind of like what I’m waiting for, right? We’re going to get this at 86. And this will give us a a concussion that we can use that’s uh not instant recast. So I can use it, right? Otherwise uh you know you’re kind of screwed there cuz I can’t do it in the multimind because it just cast it over and over again, right? So uh that’s everything. That is like literally everything about the wizard. Like uh spam spam spam, right? Like if I I’m going to spam five, right? This is my nuke button, right? Everybody does something on five. Uh, obviously it’s going to cast harvest and stuff like that because that’s where we’re at. But we can kind of just see here like how much damage is going out. I guess if we like the actual thing here. So we the mana burn was the last nuke we did. So 2100700 47 4900 900 or 9,994 49 175 uh 5291 21,000 crit 19,000 crit 35,000 crit 17,000 crit 1700 you can kind of see how crazy this damage is. 19,000 and you do see tangle weave energy does get cast in the longer iterations of this rotation. Uh and the shorter ones uh we usually don’t get past. It usually dies with ethereal incineration in all honesty. Uh but you can see we have massive damage and it is uh a lovely a lovely thing to see. Uh we’ll do an all together video with all the characters and you can kind of see where they all line up DPS-wise in a real world uh real world encounter. We’ll probably go run through a gribbles and uh we’ll see some real world damage in a gribble mission. So, that’s kind of probably what we’ll do here at the level 80 altogether fun. But that is it. That is uh like pretty much everything. Uh gearwise, like I’m literally wearing like terrible gear. Like I’m wearing a Daizo ceremonial robe. I don’t even know where I got this. It doesn’t like it’s a level 40 robe, right? I have terrible gear on all these characters. Uh, elegant defiant would be like the best defiant you can get, but in all honesty, you’re going to want to go to the hero’s journey progression all the way down here at the very bottom. And you’re going to want to do these seeds of destruction uh achievements to get Paragon gear. This is equivalent to House of Tool tier one. Uh, is what you’re going to want. Now, I’m going to try my best to skip a lot of that so I can get into higher level content faster by doing the Grivils missions. And so we will kind of skip some of that on a lot of these characters going to stay pretty pretty barren. I think about uh 106 I’ll probably go farm them up uh either uh confflagrant or just skip straight to snow bout and just level set them all there. Uh so they’re you know good. But for the most part uh I I don’t plan on doing a lot of extra stuff. Now I do have uh a,00200 marks of valor. So, I will buy them some stuff when we get to that point of uh the next video that we do. But, uh for the most part, gear is gear is the the limiting factor of what I’m doing right now. Um so, the Paragon gear, the heroes gear before that. If paragon stuff is too hard to do, if you’re, you know, if your tank’s very well geared compared relatively to everybody else, start in House of Through it uh quest by quest and you will be a ahead of the game because by the time you’re finished with House of Thish uh in full level uh 90 gear, so you will be uh really set there. Uh, but there’s some options uh when it comes to all that. But that is that that is how I play the wizard. Uh, it’s very simple. Not much to it. Whole lot of damage, a whole lot of fun. If you have any questions or comments, leave them down below. If there’s something I missed and you think I should add it, let me know and we will get that into this next video. Thank you very much for watching and please have a fantastic day.
