How I Play My Level 75 Mage
A walkthrough of my level 75 Mage setup. Progressive build from previous level guides. Covers the spam rotation built around Rampaging Servant and Bolt of Molten Slag, why earring focus matters for pet level, gear progression toward Paragon Silk, and pet item management.
The level 75 Mage is built around Rampaging Servant swarm pets feeding into Bolt of Molten Slag, with the Water Pet doing pet tank duty. This guide covers the rotation, the critical earring focus that bumps your pet's level, the new Thaumaturge's Unity AA, and gear progression toward Paragon Silk.
Session Overview
What's new at level 75.
- Role: Pet-driven fire DPS. Water elemental tank pet plus swarm pets feeding the rotation.
- Pet of choice: Essence of Water. Switched from the air pet after community feedback. Water pet wins out for boxing.
- New at 75: Thaumaturge's Unity AA replaces individual buff slots, Bolt of Molten Slag replaces the Spear line.
- Boxing two mages: Both run the same rotation, second mage handles Mass Mod Rod casts to free up the main mage's bar.
Core Spell Rotation
The everyday multibind on the spam button.
- Rampaging Servant: Current swarm pet. Most important spell in the rotation. Adds a pet for Shock of the Many scaling.
- Bolt of Molten Slag: Current main nuke. ~400 damage upgrade over the previous Spear line at the same mana cost.
- Shock of Silvered Steel: Magic-based nuke. Slot in for fire-immune mobs by swapping the spell drag-and-drop.
- Rain of Molten Slag: Filler slot. Skip in real zones since AoE rains can hit you when in melee range.
- Summoned: Molten Orb: 10 charge magma jet item. Free 700 damage per click.
Multibind extras: Host of Elements (more swarm pets), Servant of Ro (giant fire elemental, 9min reuse), Turn Summoned (5% chance for 32k on summoned/elemental targets), Companion of Necessity (taunt pet on cooldown).
Earring Focus Matters
Why a level 75 earring upgrade is worth more than it looks.
- Servant of Chaos focus: The Hero's Journey earring focus. Bumps the Essence of Water pet from level 70 to level 72.
- Minion of Darkness focus: Older Vex Thal raid focus. Caps the pet at level 70 even when you cast the level 72 version.
- Why it matters: Same spell cast, two pet levels of difference. Helmet and arms focuses become even more important at higher tiers.
- Source: The earring drops from the Champion of Loping Plains achievement chain in Hero's Journey.
Pet Maintenance
Buffs and items for the elemental.
- Burnout VI: Current pet haste line.
- Iceflame Body: Current pet absorb buff.
- Magma Skin: Current damage shield (using the Mage version for icon visibility).
- Wrath Strength Aura: Pet aura for damage boost. Moves into the Aura window around level 85.
- Crystal Belt: Pet item, no upgrade past level 60 but still worth slotting.
- Muzzle of Mowcha: Upgraded muzzle. 20% haste, dexterity, and attack on the pet.
- Searing Torch: Pet weapon (6 ratio, 345 damage). Don't give the Jagged Rage Sword unless you want pet taunting.
Pet bag of crap: Spell weapons now come in a bag. Hold Ctrl and click to dump the bag contents into your inventory bag.
Buff Block List
What to take and what to block at 75.
- Take Aegolism: The Cleric AC line.
- Take Thaumaturge's Unity: Combines Prime Shielding and Phantasmal Mana Regen in one cast.
- Block Druid Skin: Doesn't stack with Thaumaturge's Unity AC component.
- Block Steeloak: Doesn't stack either.
- Block Wolf Form: Breaks other things.
- Block Levitate: Personal preference.
Burn Sequence
Stacking everything for peak DPS.
- Silent Casting: Aggro reduction. Open with this.
- Frenzied Burnout: Pet damage buff. Pet on steroids.
- Companion's Shielding: Pet durability boost so the now-aggro-magnet pet survives.
- Heart of Froststone: Absorb incoming damage in case you pull aggro.
- Heart of Skyfire: Increase base spell damage.
Always-on: Elemental Form is a permanent buff that auto-upgrades. Always have it active.
Gear Progression at 75
From Defiant to Paragon Silk.
- Elegant Defiant: The starting baseline.
- Paragon Silk (Seeds of Destruction): Best non-raid gear at 75. ~852 HP per slot, almost House of Thule tier 1 quality.
- Defending Ocean Green Village: Three quest line that grants Enhance Minion V (buffs level 76 to 90 pets). Doable in an afternoon on six characters.
- Cleansing the Temple of Bertoxxulous: Easier alternative for Paragon pieces.
- Two-handed weapon: Worth the swap. Sympathetic procs trigger off your spells, free damage even while casting.
Always melee: If you're playing one character, melee while casting. Even with zero piercing skill, the proc chance gives free damage between spell casts.

Hello and welcome to how I play my level 75 mage. Now, uh I’ve been I’ve been tweaking this thing up until like five minutes ago, but uh I think I’m I’m settled on this. So, this is going to be a progressive video. Uh meaning that the previous videos uh are going to be built upon. So, anything that I touched in those will might may or may not be mentioned in this one. Today, we’re going to talk about spells. We’re going to talk about the the multivine or their lack of. We’re going to talk about all the all the buffs. We’re going to talk about gear and the importance of a upgraded earring and uh some of the junk that I hand to the pet sometimes. But uh like it’s just not worth it most of the time because uh I’ve lost this pet I don’t know how many times. The server crashed yesterday. I lost my pets, all my pets. And uh it’s just kind of tedious to like redo all that. I think I think fundamentally the mage needs to be changed uh so that they’re more like the mercenary uh for pet stuff, but uh I digress in that. Uh so let’s talk about this. So my first spell here is bolt of molten slag. Now I typically do the spear is my typical saying, but that was not upgraded. Uh that is a level 70 spell was not upgraded. This is 400 damage more for roughly the same stats. So I went with this one. Uh so this is uh number two in our multivine here. Uh after uh not this one uh raging uh rampaging servant, our current level uh swarm pet. So that is our most most important spell I would say. Uh but uh that is the number three spell. And then number two I have shaga silvered steel. Now, this spell is a magic based spell. The only reason it’s on my bar at the moment is if I’m fighting fire stuff, I need to swap those two spells out. And I can just drag and drop the icon uh versus changing the spells, the item in the spell. Uh cuz I’m lazy, so you know, it works out there. Plus, there’s a lot of extra slots I don’t really need. Uh speaking of this one, like I didn’t know what to put in this slot right here. Uh, so I put rain of molten slack. Now, I typically don’t use the rains because the like this is the problem, right? I don’t know if I’ll even take damage here, but if I rain and I’m too close to the mob, typically I would take damage, right? Uh, I’m just not going to get hit by it because of uh probably this this area here. But when you’re inside of real zones, you take you take damage from these rains and stuff. Uh, and the way I play sometimes is I’m on autof follow on my tank. And where is my tank? He’s right here. So, it just not practical to do. Uh, next up we have summoned orb. Uh, molten orb that is. Now, this didn’t get upgraded in this level range, but uh I still have it on. It’s a 10 charge summon of um a magma jet, which does 700 damage. Free uh practically free damage. I mean, might as well use it. Uh then we have scorching skin which is just a damage shield uh additive that we put onto the tank as extra damage. Now I put this on my bar uh but I have not used it yet. This gives everybody a mod rod. So this is a mass mod rod, right? So everybody gets it. Everybody has a mod rod on their hand. Yay. But I don’t have it in [laughter] I don’t have it wired up into anything yet. Uh I’m not 100% sure. You know, this is where it’s going to go right here on that line, but uh I don’t cast it enough to really think about it enough right now. So, uh I’m kind of I’m kind of waiting on the AA version uh that we get so we can just use AA versus having another spell. Uh but it’s just not there yet. We will eventually be using mod rods. I’m just I’m kind of lazy and I don’t want to type it out uh six times, right? Uh that’s kind of where I’m at. I’ll have to do it eventually, but uh I’m not. Now we have elemental symbosius uh or symbiosis, right? U this is the u equivalent to mana regen for us. It uh kind of cannibalizes the pet a little bit uh for mana, right? If we So if we click on the pet, right, we cast this He loses about 20 15 to 20% health, right? Uh and that gives us a buff for a short period of time, 10 minutes, right? This is in my short duration buff with a lot of other things here. I got eight, which is this spell, six, which is scorch skin, five, which is orb, and uh on my other mage, since I’m running two mages, is probably going to be the one that casts the mod rod since I just don’t have a spot in here to do it. And so I’ll probably put it on that other mage. So that mage is doing the mod rod. I’m doing the the damage shield to there. So it kind of works out. Uh but obviously this other mage isn’t even configured yet. Uh I have to copy UI from this one after I log it out. So I get the the current version. And then uh next up we have call a hero. Now we do have the call hero aa wherever that’s at right here. And uh it’s on a different timer than the spell. So, we can do uh you know, call hero somebody and while that’s refreshing, we can cast a spell. So, I keep it memorized uh just because that is the slot. Uh wherever that second to the last slot is when we end up at like 14 slots is where I’m going to pick put group call hero. Uh my favorite spell in the game. So, that’s where that’ll go eventually. And it’s just really save it a spot. Make sure I don’t put anything else there. Uh so, that is that’s Oh, yeah. And then we have our our final thing is our pet. Now, uh the pet, the essence of water, right? Uh I use the water pet cuz I got so many comments. People tell me to use the water pet. I was using the air pet for the longest time cuz I like the stun and uh I like the I like the air pet. I don’t know why. I just like it better. Uh but everybody says use the water pet. So I decided to just go with it and I used the water pet. Uh he’s he’s wet. Uh he’s pretty fun. Now uh an interesting thing, right? Let’s let’s talk about this. Let’s talk this sideway into gear, right? So, I have not purchased any of the uh the upgraded defy gear for anyone but this character, right? Uh I just didn’t feel like it was worth the effort uh to get very minimal stats. But this uh this earring has serve to chaos, right? It’s a higher level focus. We have no idea what the value is here without like going to look on a a thing. So, I have a higher level focus. My pet is 72. Now, if we go over here to my other mage, uh, she has the the previous tier, right? So, the elaborate, I have the elegant, and it has minion of darkness. And then, minion of darkness is equivalent to uh the Vex Stall raid, I believe. I believe that’s where that one is from. Uh, so it’s pretty weak, right? It’s like a level 60 focus. Now, if we con our pet, it is level 70. Now, we’re using the same essence of water, right? So, the pet focus gave my pet two levels over uh my other character. Now, if we do this, let’s check this. So, this pet’s not buffed. Leave. Uh let’s take off the earring all together and then summon the pet. So, this is level 72 pet. What level do you think it’s going to be? What do you think? It is level 70. [laughter] So, uh, this might not even affect us very much at this level, but the next one does. So, make sure you update yourself your your earring. It’s probably the most important item uh besides arms and helmet for a a mage. So, keep that in mind. All right. So, that’s all the spells. Our multi-bind is pretty simple. It is X-target 19, which is our assist target, right? Pet attack, pet swarm, and stand. Stand is uh I use it in all my macros because when you get to uh uh what is it, the outer brood and some other ones, there’s mobs that do AoE fain death. And if you do a slashstand while faining death, you stand up. But if you do it while uh standing, you don’t sit down for some reason uh like you used to. So it works pretty well to just totally forget negate that mechanic uh from everything. So it’s very good. So my my rotation is rampaging servant into bolt of magma slag. But we also do some AAS here. We got host of elements which is more swarm pets. Uh we got servant of row which is a giant fire elemental that attacks. It’s a 9minute reuse so I keep it on my on my uh rotation multivine just to keep it going. And then we have turn summoned. Now, I’ve been shocked a few times while playing and then this like some mob just instantly dies. I’m like, “What just happened?” Right? And it’s because uh it triggers this 5% chance to do 32k to whatever the target is. And it doesn’t affect the rotation at all when it is there and you’re spamming the button. And then finally, we have uh companion necessity, which just summons a pet to do some taunting and to lower the aggro that somebody else might have. I do that on cooldown. Now, my goal with my pets, they all have uh taunt on, right? Uh they are mitigating damage by taking a hit or two every so so many rounds while my tank is constantly taunting, right? If you have 100% aggro and I taunt, I’m going to take that aggro. I just need one one bit of aggro over you. Right now, if my pet taunts again after I take aggro, he’s going to get it. Right. So, everybody who’s taunting is just like fighting for aggro. Now, if it’s fighting between me and two pets, I’m okay with that because that’s my wizard not getting killed [laughter] when it boils down to it. But these pets, they’re they’re taking a hit. You know, these hits, some of these hits are pretty good. Pretty good hits, right? like my uh my tank is not geared as well as my uh solo uh raid geared uh shadow knight on FV, right? Like that guy can take hits all day long. I cannot take any hits. I I am slacked. It’s pretty bad. But uh it is definitely uh some something that I’m using to my advantage right now. Uh now that’s all the spells. That’s the rotation, right? That’s basic everything. Now we have a debuff button which does uh aa malow and then uh pet swarm. So if we just click that, you’ll notice targets malo pet in pet swarm, right? So if we have swarm beds up, they’re going to go attack. Pretty simple. The aa malow is almost instant cast. So it is like a perfect uh perfect spell for that. Now pet stop. Uh another one I have is this one. I showed this one before. I just cast uh elemental uh into skin into molten orb. Auto inventory is that orb plus uh you know it did target the tank during that. So that’s pretty simple there. Uh at 75 we picked up thermur thermage unity. Uh this is a spell that combines a few spells. So, this combines prime shielding, which is our shielding spell, like minor shielding all the way from level one uh and our fantasmal uh mana regen spell. So, that gets put in there, too. So, that increases our mana regen and health regen and armor class, which does not stack with druid skin. So, we have to block druid skin so that we can get uh that. I clicked the wrong button there, but let’s claim that anyway because ah it’s not what I want. All right, there we go. Uh block buffs right here. So things I’m blocking, right? Uh I’m blocking steel oak. I I guess I didn’t get uh the new druid one on me right now. I’m also blocking wolf form because that breaks something else and I block levitate cuz I hate it. Uh but as you can see uh you know that’s what you’re going to want. So, you’re going to want aism on your uh on your uh your mage, right? Uh or you can go with the the non-agalism way. I think I have aism on right now. This is it, right? Yeah, I already have it on, so I have that. So, if you have that, you’re going to be good. You do not want skin. All right. You don’t want the skin symbol combo. It’s just not going to be good for you. Now, let’s see here. We do burnout. Burnout six is our current burnout. So, that’s for the pet. Uh, we do ice flame body, which is our current ice flame line for the pet. We do damage shield. I do the mage damage shield because I like to see this icon. So, the holy only reason. So, magma skin is the current one. We do aura. Wrath strength is the current uh aura we have. We’re going to get another one here pretty soon, I think, at 85. Uh that will actually go into the aura window. Wow. Wow. Uh I cast uh let’s see here. Pet inventory, right? Uh see here. Yeah, I do crystal belt, which is the belt. Uh so you click that. Just add some hit points and stats to the pet. It’s like level 60, but there’s no other upgrade. So that’s your option. Now, uh at this point, our spell weapons are actually a bag of crap. that we have to deal with. So, we can’t auto inventory that anymore. We have to take the bag. And if you summon the bag, so you got the bag in your hand like this, you’re like, “Oh my god, how am I going to do this? I got to like do that.” No, you just hold down control, you click this, and boom, everything in the bag goes into whatever bag you clicked on. As you can see here, I got all kinds of crap in here. Now, uh, then you can take those two, you know, give them to the pet or whatever you want to do, however you want it, whichever ones you want to give, right? I would look at the weapon because if you give it the jagged rage sword, it is going to taunt. So, you might want to think about that one. Uh, this is air damage. This one is a summon rod. This is cold damage. And I gave him, I think, fire damage. So, just depends on what you want to do. I don’t think it really matters in all honesty. And then muzzle. Uh, we got an upgrade to the muzzle. Uh, it’s mowchow now. Um, right here. So, it gives 20% haste, a little bit of dexterity, and some attack. So, it’s not too bad there. And then, uh, the mage pet automatically comes up with the the phantom armor, so you don’t have to give that to your pet there. And, uh, searing torch is the one I gave it, right? 6 ratio, 345 damage. Uh, and then we her ring does not have shrink companion on it. So, uh, we we are, uh, doing still doing this macro here. Tiny companion. Cast it three times, and our pet becomes this little itty bitty, uh, almost invisible blob versus this giant ass water elemental that looks ugly with his fish gills. So, your choice. Uh, you know, do what you want. But, uh, that is all the spells I cast. That is all that. Now, we didn’t talk about burns. I’m not even sure if I even got like a full burn going on here. We got one of them. So, our current burns are uh silent casting, right? That lowers our aggro into frenzied burnout, which is a pet buff. Makes the pet on uh steroids, which goes into companion shielding, which makes the pet uh a little bit more durable. And then we do Heart of Froststone, which lets us absorb incoming damage. So if we get aggro and then Heart of Skyfire, this increases our base damage of our spells. So this is in the burn, right? All my characters, they have 7 89 as [music] the burns. So they’re all there. Uh I’ll be adding zero pretty soon when we get glyphs to accommodate all of the buttons. But uh that works out how that is there. Now that’s about it. Like in all honesty, I got to look at these doubled up here. You you get elemental form. You want to click that. I mean, it’s a buff, but it’s permanent. Auto upgrades. Don’t even think about it. It’s so nice. Uh summon companion. I mean, it’s it’s call hero for your pet. I mean, you got it when you got it, if you need it. I don’t ever use it. So, that is it. Uh gearwise, you’re going to want elegant. Uh, elegant is the best defiant gear you can get, but technically the best gear I think you can get right now that’s not raid gear is paragon gear if you’re on live from doing the seeds of destruction quests and the achievements inside of the heroes uh journey here actually pulls up. There we go. Conquest like down here these ones right here like herald of old Anatonica is going to get you the rings and stuff like that. Uh so your champion of loping plains is going to get you heroes. So if you do this one, you’re going to get the hero’s uh earring, which is servant of chaos, which is the same as what I already have. Uh so if you want to save money, you can go do these uh six quests in loping plains. And I believe, yeah, I think they’re just loping planes, right? You can do that. Let’s see here. Conquest maybe. No, maybe advancement. I’m trying to find out where the other paragon stuff is. I’m not seeing it though anywhere. Uh these are just tons of tons of things you can do. I’ve I’ve done most of the stuff like on my Number series. Uh and I haven’t done it other than that. Okay, here’s Paragon Silk Sandals. If you do Black Burrow from Seeds of Destruction, uh here’s Paragon Silk Gloves. You can see the stats on this, right? This is like the best you can get. Like 852 hit points. That’s like almost house of tier one. Uh you do these, you’re going to get that. If you do Herald of Ocean Hills, which is the this is still seeds of destruction. Uh this is, you know, there it’s pretty good stuff. Now, this is now like I’m not going to like lie. It’s difficult content. I mean, I literally had to do all of the heroes to get to be able to do that one when I was doing it solo. Uh, you might be able to get through it uh, you know, with by the hair of a chinny chin chin, but I I’m I’m not I’m not going to lie when it’s say it is difficult content at 75. Uh, at 80, it’s a lot easier. Like here’s cleansing of uh, uh, Temple of Bertoxilus. This is another one in uh Seeds of Destruction doing those quests. That one’s, you know, pretty fun. I mean, these are fun. Like, don’t get me wrong, I love Seeds of Destruction. It’s a fun expansion. Uh I’ve done it like three times and it’s good. Okay, here we go. Here we find it. So, defending Ocean Green Village, which is three quests. I believe these are missions. I can’t remember exactly. They might be missions, but it’s going to get you the might of the giants um pet item, which is 55 55 points of uh pet attack power. No, wait. No, it’s not that one. I’m not even looking. I’m stupid. I’m not I’m not even reading. Uh okay, here we go. Enhance minion five. There we go. So, this will buff level 76 to 90 pets for more power, right? Um, so definitely uh something to look at if you’re looking for those, right? Uh, definitely this is would be probably the best gear you can get outside of raid gear that you can wear at 75, which uh I’m not 100% sure of cuz I don’t raid, but this also includes the clickies uh for that. So, if you want to go do that, you could probably knock like this one out pretty easy, right? Defending Ocean Green Village. probably can knock that one out in an afternoon on six characters [music] if I remember correctly. You’re just going to have to grin and bear it when you when you take the deaths, you know, find a character close to res or something. But, uh, yeah. So, that’s the gear you’re going to want to get. You’re going to want a two-hander, honestly. Uh, I don’t know when, but at some point the two-handers get a proc on them. So, every time you cast a spell, you have sympathetic procs, which will proc that weapon even if you’re not meleeing. But if you’re a good caster, you are meleeing at all times. Uh that is pretty much what you need to be doing. I don’t do it because I’m boxing and it’s a little hard to get make sure I have my my casters always meleeing, right? It’s a little tedious, but if you’re playing one character, you should always always be meleeing. Even if you’re doing like two damage, right? If like I didn’t even hit the mob, right? Look at this. Wait, that’s not right. Uh smashed. Uh smashing, right? I’m not even hitting it, right? I’m I’m totally missing. I probably have zero piercing, but the chance is I I will proc extras and you know, you’re casting and you get those uh you know, that few seconds in between a cast that you got, you you could get a swing off that does 10k or 15k or 20k or a crit for 100. Uh definitely uh you know what you should be doing, right? You should always be meleeing. And with changes to the pets now, I believe the pets will tank in almost every situation where there is an opportunity for them to tank. They will tank it if they can get aggro. Uh so you should not never take melee damage unless your pet is dead. But uh I don’t know. But that is it. That is like pretty much everything I got about the mage. Uh the like the next video is going to be all the characters we’re going to do. Uh probably a daily quest I think is going to be the best one cuz I’m going to save [music] the gribbles for uh doing on stream for the first time and stuff like that. So uh definitely uh definitely not too bad, right? Like as I as I’ve mentioned a million times, my rotation is literally just hitting five and it does all the that stuff, right? It’s very basic. It’s very simple. Like I’ve I’ve made it so easy for myself that I can play the game. uh it is definitely the way to go uh for getting things done. There’s not much else I would do differently. Uh even if I was playing one character or if I was playing a thousand characters, I would do it all the same. Uh but that is pretty much how it goes. So, if you have any questions or comments, post them down below. If you have a suggestion, let me know. Uh if you just want to say hello, go ahead and do it. Uh if you like the content, subscribe. If you uh really like the content, you can like the the video a little thumbs up somewhere around here. I don’t know. I think it’s like right down here. Uh you might enjoy that. It might make you feel better when you have that up arrow next to your uh next to your name. Uh but thank you very much for watching and please have a fantastic day.
