March 30, 2026

Daybreak announced EverQuest Legends, a new official game in the EverQuest franchise built in collaboration with indie studio Game Jawn. It's a solo-friendly, classic-era experience with multiclassing, instanced raids, and modern quality of life, but it ships on its own subscription separate from All Access, which is the part that doesn't sit right.

Classes per character3 (560 combinations)

What Was Announced

The pitch from Daybreak and Game Jawn.

  • Official game: Built by Daybreak in collaboration with Game Jawn, an indie studio led by senior members of both teams.
  • Solo-friendly: Entire game can be played and experienced solo. Group cap is four players, raids cap at eight.
  • Classic era only at launch: All of Antonica, Faydwer, and Odus from the original 1999 release. Kunark is in the works, no date.
  • Closed beta in April 2026, launch July 2026. Sign up at everquestlegends.com.

The Multiclass System

Three classes per character.

  • 15 races at launch: All 12 originals plus Iksar, Vah Shir, and Froglok. No Drakkin.
  • Primary class: Picked at character creation, gated by race (the original 1999 race/class combos).
  • Secondary class: Unlocked at level 10.
  • Third class: Unlocked later. 560 total combinations.
  • Class swapping: Primary/secondary can be swapped in major cities among the combinations you've unlocked.
  • Pets: One per player, even if you stack three pet classes.

Sound familiar? The multiclass setup reads a lot like the Heroes' Journey emulator server, which makes sense. Several of the named devs come from the EQ emulation community.

Game Features

Modernization on top of classic content.

  • Gear upgrades to +10 with swappable focus, click, and proc effects.
  • Difficulty tiers per zone: Three difficulty levels. Harder = better XP and loot.
  • Instanced dungeons and raid bosses. Open-world zones still exist for trash and travel.
  • Passive AAs from level 1, active AAs unlock at appropriate levels.
  • Experience rate: Slower than live, faster than 1999. No hell levels. Race XP modifiers removed.
  • No multiboxing. Anti-cheat is "AI tech", which is vague and unconvincing.
  • No PvP servers planned.

The Monetization Problem

Where this falls apart.

  • Not free to play: Upfront purchase plus a subscription.
  • Separate from All Access: Even if you're already a Daybreak Gold subscriber, EQL costs extra. You still need a Daybreak account to play.
  • No Krono / no shared currency.
  • In-game shop: Cosmetics, "utility items," and experience potions. The "no impact on power" line doesn't survive contact with XP potions.
  • Hosted on Daybreak servers, owned by Daybreak, published by Daybreak, but billed separately. That's the rub.

The fair play: Charge $30 once, fold it into All Access, done. A separate sub for a game on the same platform feels like double-dipping.

Platform & Requirements

The technical side raises eyebrows.

  • PC only at launch. No Mac, no Linux, no Steam Deck plans. Hopefully runs in Wine.
  • Not on Steam at launch. Possibly added later.
  • Own 64-bit launcher on the Daybreak platform.
  • Minimum requirements list Windows 7, an unsupported OS with no security updates.
  • Recommended is Windows 10, which is also end-of-life. No mention of Windows 11.
  • Daybreak account required even for the beta.

Timeline Concerns

July 2026 is aggressive.

  • Beta: April 2026. No exact date.
  • Launch: July 2026.
  • TLP collision: The next live TLP launches in late May. EQL drops two months later and will pull players away. The fall TLP follows shortly after.
  • Content scope at launch: Classic zones only. No Kunark-era Faydwer or Odus zones (no Karnor's, no Hole, no Chardok, no Veksar).

Aggressive release: No public dev history on this project, classic content only, and a hard July date. Hopefully there's more cooked than the FAQ suggests.

Other FAQ Highlights

Quick hits worth knowing.

  • Housing: Yes, accessed from East Commons tunnel.
  • Guild halls: Not at launch.
  • Bazaar: Some kind of trading system, details TBD.
  • East Commons tunnel: Has a separate instance just for the trade hangout, plus a regular passthrough.
  • Snakes kick: Confirmed. Kicking is a core ability.
  • No dyes, but "appearance customization tools" are planned.
  • No character transfers from live EverQuest.
  • Plane of Fear and Hate are in at launch.

Final Thoughts

The honest reaction.

  • The game itself sounds fun. Solo-friendly classic EverQuest with modern QoL is something I've wanted for a long time.
  • Heroes' Journey vibes are strong, which is a good thing.
  • The separate subscription is the deal-breaker for me. Same publisher, same platform, same account. Bundle it.
  • Min specs listing unsupported OSes is a weird signal. As a security guy, that one stands out.
  • I signed up for the beta. Probably won't get in, especially after airing this opinion, but I'll give it a fair shot if I do.

Hello and welcome to some request news. Now, I’m I’m I’m late to the party on this. I’m uh I was busy and uh like last week, they announced a new game. Uh yeah, so uh on the EverQuest.com uh a note to the EverQuest community came out uh about a new game, and that game is EverQuest Legends. So, this is a fan-driven passion project straight from the heart of the people who genuinely love EverQuest and uh it’s, you know, a solo friendly experience. So, you know, that’s something nice right there. EverQuest Legends isn’t about replacing anything you love. It’s just about adding something new, right? So, right there. So, and that that leads us to the EverQuest Legends website. So, you got this nice little website. You got like, you know, this is like a, you know, classic playback to uh the original artwork, right, with the iridite and the guys and stuff. So, it looks kind of cool, you know, very nice. [music] I don’t know who the artist is on this, but uh you sign up for a closed beta. I signed up. I hopefully I get in uh you know, and you know, so you got some features here, right? Uh EverQuest Legend designed to appeal to players. So, groups up to four players. So, it’s not the same. [music] Uh, six player groups and then raids up to eight players, right? Uh, entire game can be enjoyed and experienced solo. So, that’s [laughter] that’s perfect for me, right? I love it. Uh, in uh, keeping with this approach, EverQuest Legend provides the ability to create immense powerful characters, selecting three active different classes per character. Example, you can make a rogue paladin wizard. Where have we heard this before? Very interesting. Uh, you know, use new ways to upgrade gear and stuff like that and blah blah blah, right? So, very nice. Uh, whether you’re an existing EverQuest or a formal player, uh, it’ll feature uh, preunarch stuff. So, it’ll be Anatonica, Fedor, Otus, and the prekun versions of those, right? All the races will be available. So you’ll be able to play XR Frog Locks and Karen from the start. All featured in the original EverQuest style. So instead of uh the in there was not that one, right? So instead of the new uh frogs, you have the uh the old frog. I don’t know. There was a picture somewhere of it. Uh there was a frog wearing Rubicite. Oh, it looked pretty cool in all honesty. [laughter] Uh classic graphics, zones, spell effects, loot, and more. So, it’s it’s literally like, you know, the very old stuff, right? Uh, so it’s just like the original launch, but solar friendly. Uh, then you have uh let’s see here. Same zones and all that. That’s same kind of text there. Uh, modern game features. So, it’s tons of modern game features. It’s streamlined user interface, upgraded spell, ability management, countless other quality of life. Sounds interesting. I’m I’m excited to see what is going to happen out of that. Um, let’s see. You create new characters by selecting up at three character or three classes at a time with all the benefits and spells that come with each class. You can upgrade your gear to plus 10. Swap and combine different focus, click, and proc effects on your gear. That sounds amazing. uh 15 races, 560 class combinations, the uh possibilities of forging the ultimate character are virtually endless, right? There’s 560 different ways. Uh and and if uh if the server that shall not be named uh lets you know like there’s very specific combos that are useful and the very specific combos that are useless. So there’s some hopefully there’s some balancing there that will uh that will uh do something with that. But uh additional power provided by the character may benefit modernized gaming. Um play the game as your own place or group with a small group of players up to four or raid up to eight. Uh solo can build enough to take on the raids right in the most epic gear. Right now I’m going to watch the trailer, but we’re going to turn off the sound cuz that’s always a problem. And I think it’s just the old original music, right? So, this is uh kind of the the map here. Let’s just kind of scroll through. So, here’s the original Frog Lock model, right? This is, you know, what the player is going to look like, right? So, go into that. And then we got some more effects here. You see the little armor on there on the frog lock. He’s in plane of hate killing uh goblins and stuff there. Multiclass. You’re legend. So you can see here here’s the you that you get interface right when you select when you build your character right you picked uh what is that XR you pick your primary class which was maybe shadow knight wizard yeah shadow knight wizard bard obviously power class and then you can kind of see here the new interface looks a little different so we got uh this guy right here spellb bar original spell icons uh there’s There’s one hot bar down here. There is uh I don’t know what this window is. There’s the new stat bar. So, you got HP, mana, stamina. Uh I think that’s experience and alternate experience. And then you have uh the uh the little interface over here for different windows it looks like. Uh and then the chat window and then the uh main spell bar there. And then [music] there we go. That’s missed more. Oh, if we go back. So, you can kind of see here on the tool tip. Uh, this is, uh, you know, like an old school tool tip, right? It shows everything uh, nice and neat. You can see the other abilities on the hot bar here. A little different art style on that. And then what you can see here, the uh, the the [laughter] uh, the the text looks very clear and very different than the the live client. Uh, it looks reminiscent of something I’ve seen before, but I’m not 100% sure. Um, you got some kicks there, I guess. Uh, you have to push. I I don’t see hot bar numbers, so I’m I would hope you don’t have to push those. Here we see the frog locking some rubicite plane of furings here. The frog lock, you know, going up there to solo Nagathan. Right. There we go. Oh, look at that fight with all the spell effects. Definitely cool there and there. Yeah, you should watch it with sound if you if you’re into that. But, uh, there. So, like I I was going to make a video when I first saw this and I was like, there’s not enough information. There is clearly not enough information. And, uh, if we bring over here, like this is the Discord. Uh, it like literally got created not too long ago. Uh, and it’s been growing. It’s got a ton of people already and stuff like that. So, there’s an FAQ um we’re going to go through that now, uh which is going to kind of shed a little bit more light onto the game and stuff like that. So, so here’s page one of seven for the FAQ is. So, the first the first and foremost, is this an official Daybreak game? EverQuest Legends is an official game within the EverQuest franchise created by Daybreak Games in collaboration with Game John um indie studio Game John. Um the effort being led by the senior senior members of both companies. Now, right there, that kind of [laughter] like by the end of this, you’re going to re you’re going to realize my opinion on a lot of stuff, but uh like that sounds a little weird to me, but let’s get into this a little deeper. So, uh you can see here the executive producer is from Dayberry Games. The CEO and technical director uh of Game John is Secrets from the Quor server. You’ll see here that uh let’s see here this guy right here he’s the guy who created the P99 server or at least Sean Nordon [snorts] and I do not know who this person is but uh they are the senior technical designer and the senior designer there. So, uh, these are three people from the EverQuest emulation, um, community that, uh, had all signed deals with Daybreak Games to, uh, license their servers so that they wouldn’t get shut down. So, definitely some interesting interesting thing there, right? And they’re the developers, this their game studio, right? So, uh, so who or what is game John? Uh, see here’s a team passionate EverQuest obsessed fans. Uh, developers and designers. Where does the name come from? Janna is the Philadelphia ken to this is my jam. Uh, so this is our game jam. Maybe that’s maybe they’re trying to say jam. I don’t know. Uh, I’m not from Philadelphia, so I don’t know if that’s just a a dialect thing there. How does uh uh EverQuest team at Darkpaw feel about a new kid on the block? They are happy that they have a sibling in the family. Read the note there. We already read that. That was the first thing we did. What is the timeline for EverQuest Legends? When is the beta? Beta is expected in April. Precise date has not been set. Uh be sure to sign up. I signed up for the beta. Uh will everybody get into the beta? If not, how you decide to invite? We’ll be ramping up the beta invites as soon as we get closer launch. We’re still looking on the invitation process and share me information when it’s available. When will the game launch? July July 2026. Now that I don’t know how long this game has been in development, but uh that is an aggressive release date. Uh that is definitely aggressive. Uh and I don’t like it. I do not like that it is that aggressive if we think about this. All right. So, April, May, end of May is when the TLP launches, right? June, July, so 2 months after the TLP launches that’s coming out, they’re going to be launching a new game that is going to cannibalize most of the TLP cont players, right? Uh, so this is this is definitely a situation. And then July, August, September, there’s a new TLP going to be launched again, right? So the timeline on this is is very interesting and uh definitely uh something to consider. Additional content and expansion will be uh scheduled by the dev team and announced when they have a solid road map for each kunark is in the works. Uh dates to be determined. So this game is going to launch with only the classic zones. So this is going to be all of Anatonica that is uh I guess in the classic era and then all of the Otis and Fedor from the classic era but not the Kunarch level Otis, right? So that’s no no hole no um I think Ka Isles in the one of those other zones. So keep that in mind. Uh now this this now this one rubbed me a little weird. No, my my day job is uh is security, right? I do uh I do penetration tests and stuff like that. And uh I saw this the requirements for this and I thought that’s just weird. All right, so what platforms will this uh be released on? At this point in time, it’s only PC. There’s no plans for Mac or Linux. Uh hopefully it works in Wine, otherwise it’s uh you know, sad. Uh, the game will not be on Steam at launch, but will release a Steam release on Steam later time? All right, so it’s not going to have Steam launch. Uh, will the EQL use the existing EverQuest launcher or something new? It will have its own new modern 64-bit launcher on the Daybreak platform. Now, keep that in mind. This game is on the Daybreak platform. You will need a Daybreak account to play. >> [laughter] >> You will need a Daybreak account to play EQL. All right, so that I I didn’t even know catch that before, but uh we’ll keep going. Uh what are the system requirements for EQL? Right, so right at the minimum requirements are Windows 7 right off the bat. That is an unsupported operating system that no longer gets any kind of security updates, right? Uh everything else is just like basic the the lowest tier computer you could possibly think of. I I believe and then the optimal recommended requirements are Windows 10 which is another unsup supported operating system. Uh so like out of the bat this game this game is going to need [gasps] this it’s going to have some issues. Hopefully it works on Windows like 11 um you know or you know the Windows 12 that I believe they’re going to release by the end of the year. Uh but definitely uh this is disappointing. Why would they release a game that’s got the minimum requirements for that? That’s it should you know they should be aiming higher there. Um but uh you know so what is there there any plans to support controllers or foot pedals especially handicap folk you want to use a Steam Deck? Uh this is something to do post launch. All right page four monetization. All right so I’m I’m an adamant person that hates monetization in games. Uh I don’t I don’t like the freetoplay model in games. I don’t like anything like that. So, my opinions are very biased when it comes to a lot of things. Uh, and I do look over some things to enjoy the crack that is a request. So, uh, but this is a new game, so uh, it can feel feel fully of my hatred. Uh, will EverQuest Legends be free to play or one-time purchase or subscriptions? EverQuest Legends will not be free to play. The game will have an upfront fee and will operate on a subscription model. We believe the pricing will be at the lower end of most players expectations. Uh so $5 uh with a dollar subscription. That is that is where I’m looking. Uh because wait for it here. We’ll get to it in just a second. Um more details soon. This this needs to be provided more sooner than later. Now uh will there be a charge to play the beta? The beta will be free for those chosen to play all registered players at everquestleends.com. You will need a Daybreak [music] account in order to participate, but no fees apply. All right, so keep that in mind. You’re creating a Daybreak account to play. Will my will I be able to use Chrono or All Access to play EverQuest Legends? EverQuest Legends will have its own subscription outside of All Access. The game will not use Chrono or sim anything similar to Chrono. Now, right off the bat, this is this is rubbing me the totally wrong way. Right. I have to have a Daybreak account, but I have an All Access Daybreak Gold account. I shouldn’t be able to play this game for free. I do not understand like I I understand like buying it, but I don’t understand the sub sub separate subscription for this game. This is totally I think unacceptable in all honesty. Uh like it’s published by Daybreak. It’s hosted by Daybreak. It is owned in all ex in in all thoughts by Daybreak. Right? It is only being developed by a another company. Right? So uh that is that rubs me the wrong way. uh you know well rubs me raw. Will there be micro track transactions through in-game marketplace? There will be cosmetic and utility items offered in sale in game which in no way impact power. For example, we will include experience potion that that that impacts power right away. Uh something special some special new items you can use to be customized your character. Right. Uh and then that that is the rub right there. experience potions, stamina potions, any of this nonsense. That is all all pay to win in my opinion. And like it’s it is what it is. Like I you can’t argue anything. You’re paying extra. I’m paying a subscription and then paying a model and then it’s a solo game, [laughter] right? It’s a solo game with transactions. This is this is to me this is this is going to be very disappointing. Uh like I I’m probably not even going to get in beta now. I’ll probably get kicked out of the EverQuest creators program for for this video, but you know, that’s life. Uh, is Daybreak hosting the servers? Yes, EverQuest uh Legends is hosted on the Daybreak servers and supported by the Daybreak platform team, a strong stable infrastructure. Again, this does not make any sense that there is a separate fee for this at all. this I I can understand like I pay for the sub the the expansions, right? All right. So, you know what is this game? This is like this is like a $30 game. Uh charge $30 for it and then it’s a part of all access. I don’t see any other way that this is this is going to be great. [music] How many servers will stand up as many servers as needed? We’ll have US and Europe servers. Uh again, it’s a solo game. Why do we even need surfers? Oh man, I I understand it’s you can raid, right? [music] But it’s still I should be able to play it offline. Uh will we’ll be able to transfer between servers to join friends? Uh still be determined. Obviously, that’ll be into the microtransactions. Can we transfer characters from EverQuest to EverQuest Legends? No, there is no transfers between the games. Can I rent or own my own server and invite anybody when I want? No, you cannot. Will there be PvP servers in the beta? There are no plans to operate PvP servers at all. All right. Does EverQuest Legends allow multibboxing? No. What is the plan to combat a AI botting in the game? Anti-che technology. All right. That’s not going to work. Uh, if my whole family wants to play, do we need to get our IPs whitelisted? No. All right. How do you Okay. How do you not know? Like, how do you how can I like, okay, my my wife’s going to play, right? Quote, my wife and my two my two kids, right? They’re going to play. How am How are you going to not know that it’s multiboxing? It’s just there’s some weird things going on there, right? Uh you can’t stop anything in all honesty. Uh races. What races will be available at beta launch? 15 races will be available, including all 12 original races. human, barbarian, half elf, wood elf, high elf, dark elf, uh, dwarf, dwarf, gnome, aerodite, halfling, ogre, troll, Karen, and frog lock. No Draen, though, huh? No Draen. All right, Karen, Xar, and Frogox were not in the original EverQuest in 1999. Where do these races start in EverQuest Legends? Will emerge from a new created encampment. Uh, Exar will emerge from a newly created zone, an encampment linked to the shores of Northern Row. Relics will spawn in northern Wrath Mountains, appearing to keep with the Frogox original EverQuest. Karen will spawn on Cara Island. All right. Now, if from what I understand, the Karen and the the Vashir are not the same. So, I’m a little confused there. Uh someone I said they were the same once and someone corrected me and told me that the the moon kitties are completely different than the uh the sea kitties. So uh it’s interesting there. Will Exxar be considered evil or will they be neutral? They are not wellliked by anyone. However, they are slightly more tolerant of outsiders than the Kunarch natives except those who worship a specific entity. All right. They don’t even say his name. Say his name is Kazakthul. His name. How do Karens differ from the vesier? There we go. You have to play and find out. All right. Well, that was a perfect spot to put some nice lore. Uh, will you add any new races over time? There are no plans to add additional races at launch. New races will certainly be added in the future. All right. Page six. Can you explain how multiclassing works? Can I be a dwarven wizard? At character creation, you will your first class will be determined by selection [music] with your race. Wars would be warrior, paladin, cleric, berserker, and rogue. Typo right there. Uh, and you can choose any class as your secondary at level 10, and the third class. All right. When start, you get two classes, and then at 10, you get a third class. Okay. Uh, we hear that you can switch out your classes, potentially leveling them all to 50. Can class switching be done on the fly or in the middle of a raid? What’s the process? Primary and class pace and primary class combinations can be changed at in many Oh my god, I can’t talk. In any major city among the options you have unlocked, sounds like there’s a microtransaction involved there. None of the non- primary classes can be changed without needing any unlocks. With the characters and equipment as powerful as they sound, we’ll just trivialize the game. The baseline difficulty is roughly the same as 1999. Although your characters can grow much stronger as your character gains epic strength, you can notch up the difficulty and gain better rewards in using the difficulty system. If I have three pet classes as my build, can I roll out three pets? Pets will be limited to one per player at this time. So, pet classes will not be insanely strong like they were on uh the server that won’t be named. Will AA advancement be in at launch? Passive AAS will be available from level one. Active AAS AAS become [music] available at appropriate levels. What is the rate of experience in EverQuest Legends? Experience is more slow than current live version of EverQuest, but faster than 1999. You can increase experience gain by increasing the difficulty of the zone if you dare. Your characters are also immensely more powerful with the ability to stack equipment stats. So, your individual times to level will vary. Are there hell levels? No. Do ogres gain experience more slowly? All classes, race modifiers to experience have been removed. Page seven. Zones. What zones will be available in beta and launch? All classic EverQuest zones on Anatonica, Fedor, Otis. More content zones will release over time and announced well in advance by the dev team. Will Plane of Fear and Hate be available in launch? Absolutely. Good luck. Will zones be instance? All zones can be instance. Dungeons and raid bosses will be instanced. Will there be any brand new or retoled zones uh for us to experience? Yes. How do the varying difficult settings and zones work? Uh each zone has three difficult levelies you choose from. Harder settings, more experience, and higher quality loot. What will the East Commons tunnel? Will it be the center of direct trade? To accommodate for the server load, a separate instance has been created just for players who want to hang out there. Uh folks passing through, there’s a non- instance version of these commons set up as well. Will the bizaar um will there be a bizarre for offline selling of items? There will be a game feature that allows item trading and selling more details soon. Critical absolute critical game questions. Uh is there housing? Yes, there would be housing accommodate accessible from uh East Common Tunnel. Will there be guild halls? Not at launch. Do snakes kick in EverQuest legends. Uh kicking is a core ability. Legless reptiles. Watch out for the monk class snakes. They picked up some much more fair terrifying tricks. Will there be dies in games? Dies will not be available. Uh alternate appearance customization tools will be and will there be gems? Yes. All right. So that’s that is everything. All right. So that is like all the all the information that’s out there, right? Uh it sounds like an experience, right? It sounds exactly like the Heroes Journey server uh with some different changes, maybe some, you know, sane balancing and stuff like that. Um [snorts] it’s, you know, fully supported by Daybreak, it seems. Um, the only thing that rubs me wrong is that there’s a separate subscription. I just don’t feel like there should be. [laughter] I truly don’t. Uh, and there’s no screenshots yet. This is a dev screenshot thing. It’s literally just Freeport. Old Freeport. I don’t know why people are so obsessed with old Freeport. Uh, having to zone three times to do get from, you know, all things. That’s just terrible, terrible design. But, uh, you know, it is what it is. Uh, but that’s it. Like, I mean, what are your thoughts on the game? Uh, it looks like it’s something that, you know, be worth trying. I doubt I’ll even get into the beta, but uh, we’ll see. Uh, I’ll definitely, uh, give it a shot and see. I I, you know, I, I’ve always said I want to play a solo version of the game. I enjoyed my time playing on the server that won’t be named, right? Uh, I I enjoyed my time there. It was a It was a blast. Uh and stuff like that. So, definitely uh kind of weird that it’s the exact same thing. Uh in all honesty, it’s kind of weird. Uh but, you know, it is what it is. So, that’s that. Uh if you have any questions or comments, leave them down below. If you uh if you really uh if you uh really have some opinions, I want to hear them. I want to hear all the opinions uh on this game. and uh where everybody feels. I mean, this if you look at the Discord, I mean, it’s grown massively uh massively. It’s got so many people commenting on it. I don’t even know how many people are on here. [music] It’s hard to tell, but uh uh definitely interesting. So, uh thank you very much for watching and please have a fantastic day.
