Lethar Rulesets FAQ

The Lethar TLP ruleset: starts on The Serpent's Spine, personal loot borrowed from EverQuest Legends, legacy character experience bonuses, no truebox and no item level requirements. Plus one sentence nobody could parse.

Episode192

The first read of the Lethar ruleset, and it is an unusually aggressive one: the latest starting expansion a progression server has used, personal loot lifted from EverQuest Legends, stacking experience bonuses for every max level character on the account, no truebox, and item level requirements switched off. It also contains one sentence about equip requirements that nobody could parse, which is what the follow up video exists to answer.

The Unlock Schedule

Starting later than any TLP so far.

  • Everything from classic through The Serpent's Spine is open the day the server launches.
  • The Buried Sea unlocks 12 weeks later, then one expansion every eight weeks after that.
  • Roughly one expansion every two months, which puts House of Thule inside a year. Best expansion ever made, for the record.
  • It catches live around 2029, by which point Frostreaver will still have about two more years left to run.
  • The latest start a TLP has ever used, chronologically speaking.

Personal Loot

The gimmick, and it is the Legends system.

  • Loot goes directly to players in a group or raid who earned credit, on top of what the NPC drops normally.
  • Solo players get nothing extra. This is a system that pays you for grouping rather than punishing you for it.
  • Group size changes the amount. Small pays less than medium, medium less than a full group.
  • Raid amounts do not scale with raid size.
  • Unwanted personal loot left on the corpse is destroyed, not passed to anyone else, so you have to make a decision on it.
  • Everything runs through the advanced loot window.

I rate this highly off the back of the Legends beta, where I had a terrific time with it. The point is that grouping stops being a loot negotiation.

Legacy Characters

My favourite TLP mechanic, and it stacks.

  • Every max level character on the account gives 10% experience, up to 100% at ten characters.
  • A level cap increase takes it away until those characters reach the new cap again.
  • No drop items that are not free trade become heirloom, so raid gear moves between your own characters.
  • Account-wide lockouts apply per character, not per account, though they do cover every persona on that character.

The Rest of the Ruleset

Several things at once that are individually unusual.

  • No truebox, so boxing is expected rather than fought.
  • No PvP.
  • Experience as fast as live.
  • Item level requirements are disabled, so a level one can equip high end gear and get some of those stats.
  • Agent of Change handles instanced content through pick zones. Having played Legends, I think pick zones are an outdated concept and they should go to proper instances: create one, bring your group in, done.

They are going straight up against EverQuest Legends, which is a hard bill to fill when you are fighting yourself. Good luck to them, and I mean that.

The Sentence Nobody Could Parse

Flagged here, answered a week later.

  • "All tradeable equipment items are given the attunable flag, and all class, race, deity equip requirements on the item are removed."
  • The comma does an enormous amount of work. Read one way it applies to personal loot only; read another it changes every item in the game.
  • I put it to viewers rather than commit to a reading I was not sure of. My guess on camera was the bigger one, that a Yak becomes usable by anybody.
  • The answer turned out to be exactly that. See Lethar Rulesets UPDATED FAQ, where the studio clarified it.

Do not plan around anything I say I am going to do. I spun up on Frostreaver, a friend pointed out I had Legends access the whole time, and I never logged back in. I am considering a character here, with that caveat attached.

Hello and welcome to some EverQuest news. Today we’re going to talk about the Luclin rule set FAQ. Uh and so we’re going to find out more about that. There’s Luclin himself, I believe. I don’t know. I’ve never actually killed him. Uh but there he is. So this is the information that the TL Project is going to have. Now this server I believe is going to start in when does it start? When does it start? Oh, it’s I think it’s August. It’s it’s it’s got to be August. Uh expansion unlock information. The Serpent’s Spine will be available when the server opens. So that means every expansion between uh classic and Serpent’s Spine will be available to you. So that is going to be kind of cool. Uh I think this is one of the latest latest launches I’ve ever seen for a TL Project server like uh you know kind of you know kind of chronologically, right? Uh The Buried Sea will unlock 12 weeks later and then expansions will unlock eight weeks thereafter. Uh see here, expansion unlock dates, right? So what is that? 11 1 2. So every two months. I’m going to go with every two months you’re going to get a new expansion. Uh which is not bad because by you know this time next year you’re going to be in House of Thule which is the best expansion ever. And by 2029 you will already be live uh in Frostfell will still have two more years to go to [laughter] be live. So uh definitely interesting thing. And now this server has its own unique gimmick which is probably the most important thing about this server. And that is personal loot. Now if you’ve heard my my my comments on personal loot in the past about how it’s handled on uh uh EverQuest Legends. It is uh it sounds to be the same. So, let’s read through here. So, the personal’s personal loot system’s goal is to encourage playing cooperative cooperatively with others by distributing loot directly to players instead of worrying about who gets the rare item that NPC had. Now, players can focus on which monsters to slay next and have fun doing so. Now, I had a terrific time in the EverQuest Legends beta uh with personal loot. Now, if it’s the same kind of personal loot that that’s in Legends, oh my gosh, this is going to revolutionize uh EverQuest uh just because of this makes it so grouping is not a negative, right? Now, like this is I don’t even think this server’s truebox, so it’s going to have, you know, people boxing, too, but uh everybody in the group seems to be getting an item. So, the personal loot system gives loot directly to players who are in a group or raid and earn credit for killing an NPC. Solo players do not receive additional loot. Personal loot is given to given in addition to the loot that the NPC would normally give and is accessed via the advanced loot window. Unwanted personal loot that is left on the corpse is deleted rather than being accessible by others, which is the same as how the EverQuest Legends one works. You can’t just leave something on the corpse. You have to uh you know, make a decision what to do with it. Uh which is pretty cool. Uh in all honesty, right? Like uh I don’t know how much personal loot you get. Like you know, you kill like say the the ghoul lord, right? He can drop a yak. He can drop a uh shiny helmet or whatever it’s called. I can’t remember the name of it, skull shape, or boat. Um you know, so everybody in the group’s going to get to chance at one of those items. Plus, I believe it drops the one item that he dropped, right? So, everybody gets an item, plus you get to roll, I think, for that. I think that’s the way it sounds to me. Or everybody just gets personal loot. Whatever it is, it’s going to be uh pretty interesting. So, you’ll be able to handle new through the advanced loot window. So, I heard that was updated like two patches ago or last patch, so uh that is good. We’ll talk about the test server uh in another video uh for July, but uh we haven’t gotten there yet. I’ve been out of town, so I I’m I’m a little behind, so you So, you know, bear with me. All right, the amount of personal loot earned while in a raid is the same of regardless how many players are in the raid. In addition, the group in the group, the amount of loot varies on how many players are in group. Uh small groups earn less than medium groups, which is earn less than full groups. I have no idea what that even means. Personal loot is given to uh each player uh or what the NPC normally drop, plus the Okay, well, so this explains it right here. Uh what the normal normally drop, but each person gets their own roll to determine the items they should get. All right, so there we go. Additionally, all tradeable equipment are given the attunable flag, making the them attune first time the item is equipped. And all class, race, deity equip requirements on the item are removed. What? Hold the door. All class, class, race, deity equip requirements are removed. All the requirements are removed. What? What? So [laughter] making the Matuum for the first time they are equipped and all class race deity equipment requirements on items are removed. That is a That is a That is a That comma is doing a lot of [\h__\h] work. I’m not going to lie. Um I could just be, you know, illiterate and I have no idea what this means, but to me this sounds like uh the yak can be used by anybody. Uh and it’s in the tunable yak. They If you equip it, it’s yours, right? And you can sell it if it’s equippable. Otherwise, I don’t know. Uh these changes apply to all items, just not acquired on personal loot. This is uh This sounds This sounds interesting. This comma is doing a lot of work. If anybody knows more about that, please leave a comment down below cuz that sounds crazy. And uh legacy characters Legacy characters allow your character on the same account to receive a semi-permanent experience bonus. Uh Legacy characters is my favorite bonus that can be added to a TLB server. I think it should be added to all servers. Uh but uh we’re not there yet, I guess. Um So, what this does is every time you get a max level character your account gets a 10% experience bonus. Two, you get a 20% and so on and so on until you hit 10 which then gives you a 100% experience bonus. When the server cap uh level cap increases, you lose it, but uh once you get back to max level, you get your stuff back, right? Uh see here, missions, raids, and tasks with account-wide lockouts applied to the their lockout only to the character that is completing through the lockout does uh does still apply to all personas on that character, right? So if you have 10 characters on your account, so this is very alt-friendly, uh you can do the raid on all your characters, right? So, if you want to do that. I think it should be personas. I think I think all alternate characters is kind of a antiquated thing to me, but uh you know, whatever. Additionally, all no drop items that are not free trade are now heirloom. So, you know, you go you go you go kill some uh raid loot, and you can uh give that over to your alts and stuff like that. So, that’s pretty nice. Let’s see here. Agent of Change, so that you know, there’ll be instance content, right? Pick zones, you pick instances uh of the zone. Now, I think pick zones are an outdated concept at this point after playing Legends, and I think they need to go full create an instance, and uh you know, bring your group in, bring yourself in, go 100% uh no holds barred there. Now, this server will not have true box. This will not have PvP. And experience will be as fast as live. And uh this server does have disabled level requ- item level requirements. So, uh Jesus, Jesus, this is going to be a crazy server. Um so, on this server, you’ll be able to equip uh high-level items on a level one and get uh some of those stats. So, that is uh pretty crazy. Uh and you can see here the the the the timing is pretty pretty aggressive every 2 months, right? So, I think this is like this one’s a little bit Yeah, it’s 2 months, 2 months. 2 4 6 7. I don’t know why that one’s seven. 6 7 Yeah, I don’t know. The kids are crazy about it. All right. So, there you go. That is what is uh going on on Lethar. I’m actually considering uh you know, spinning up a character. I know I tried Frost River, and then I you know, I was playing on Frostriver, right? And my one of my friends, he said, “You have access to Legends while you’re playing here.” And I was like, “You know what? You’re right.” >> [laughter] >> So, I never logged back on. Uh but you know, that’s me. I I’m I’m pretty flaky. I would not base anything around anything I say about what I’m going to do because I I do everything you know, I drop things pretty quickly. But this one looks pretty interesting. I you know, definitely going to give it a shot uh and stuff like that. But that is the Lefar rule set FAQ. Uh it’s pretty good. I’m I’m wishing them the best of luck. They’re going to go straight up against EverQuest Legends. And you know, that’s a that’s a hard bill to fill in all honesty uh fighting yourself. So, definitely you know, it will be interesting to see. Uh but if you have any questions or comments, you like you like my content, like, subscribe, and all that stuff. We we’re almost like we’re almost at 90,000 views for the month. I mean my life has changed. I’m I’m staring at these views and it’s like almost 90,000. It is insane.
